Loxton, a registered trademark in Canada, has built a strong brand with a dedicated consumer following through its offering of 6 de-alcoholized wine varietals. Recognized as the best-tasting wine in its segment, Loxton was acquired in 2019 by Malinda wines
A Spark of Inspiration in 1986
It was 1986. One of the founders of Loxton was pregnant, and like many others, we explored the limited non-alcoholic options available in stores. One evening at a restaurant, a simple request for a non-alcoholic drink led to an unexpected experience - our wine glasses disappeared, and so did our waiter until the food arrived.
We sampled the only de-alcoholized wine on the market then, and frankly, it wasn't very good. That's when it hit us - there must be a market for quality de-alcoholized wine. Surely, we weren't the only ones craving premium wines without the alcohol content
Our Journey: Beginning in Canada
Tired of sparkling apple cider and longing for sophistication, we embarked on a global search for the best-tasting de-alcoholized wines to offer retailers. At our kitchen table, we drafted letters to dozens of wineries, seeking a producer who could meet our high standards. We requested samples and were impressed by an Australian winery. By 1988, we had formed a relationship with them and received several cases of samples. Convinced of the quality, we proposed they produce a line of de-alcoholized wines for us in Canada.
Our presentations to grocery stores were met with enthusiasm, securing listings at several major chains. We incorporated in 1989, and our first container arrived in June of that year - a moment of triumph!
In mid-1991, after persistent efforts, the BCLDB decided to list our Loxton Wines - a first for a provincial liquor jurisdiction in Canada.
We were officially in business, turning our personal need into a vision that would reshape the non-alcoholic wine market in Canada.
